Protect Earth feel that one of the best ways of growing forests and biodiversity is to create woodlands and green spaces that people want to be in. When people are in these spaces, they learn about the woods, and it becomes part of their routine - whether they go walking with their dogs or horses or go with friends on mountain bikes.
When High Wood was a commercially managed woodland, access to the space was limited. The mountain bike trails that had been there were not maintained and fell into disrepair.
We are happy to be reopening the woodland to bikers again. We partnered with some bikers in the Liskeard area who refurbished the remnants of the old tracks and designed new paths. Of course, the regenerative thinning work we did earlier this year, removing some of the non-native timber, created conditions for great riding!
Access to High Wood is free for everyone, so get down with your bike and enjoy these new trails.
In the meantime, here’s a video of the team rebuilding a section of the biking track that had fallen into disrepair.
