Intro

Come and have a fun day/half day with Protect Earth!

Protect Earth is a registered charity, helping farmers and landowners increase tree cover and biodiversity on their land. We plant trees on unused and degraded farmland, use trees to provide shade and shelter for crops and livestock, manage woodlands, create wildflower meadows, and help with tree maintenance for saplings that are struggling.

What is happening?

We recently bought 81 acres of land at Warleigh near Bath which we are now calling Warleigh Nature Reserve. We have lots of of jobs suitable for volunteers, but today we are looking for help with some coppicing. This is a traditional woodland skill which encourages growth in future seasons and is good for the woodland as a whole as it creates light and promotes biodiversity. If you haven’t done it before, you will have a fun time learning. Adults only for this session please.

We appreciate volunteers who are able to come for half a day or the whole day. We love it when the local community gets involved in their area, and also welcome guests from further away. It allows us to make new friends, catch up with friends we’ve made, and learn what people love about their communities while talking to them about enriching local biodiversity.

What do I need to bring/ know?

No previous experience is necessary, we’ll train you up and provide all the necessary equipment. Please come dressed for the weather.

We will provide tea, coffee, and biscuits to keep you going, but please bring your own lunch and snacks, and a refillable water bottle as there will be water available to top up.

Will there be parking?

There is limited parking onsite. If you live nearby and are able to walk or cycle that would be helpful. If coming with others, please car-share. There is further parking at the canal basin at the bottom of Brassknocker Hill. We will send full details nearer the time.

What happens if we need to cancel?

Bad weather is difficult to plan for. In general, we will continue if it’s raining, but if a severe storm is forecast we will have to postpone an event. We will try and notify you as soon as we possibly can, and you’ll be invited to the rescheduled event.
