Roskruge Farm is a large (18 hectare) site comprising a wide mixture of habitats including grassland, scrub, hedgerows, woodland and ponds. It is already good for wildlife β but the landowners would like to make it even better by creating more habitat.
With Protect Earthβs help the landowners want to plant another 1400 native broadleaf trees, 850 metres of wildlife friendly hedgerow, and establish nearly 1 hectare of wildflower meadow.
Trees were planted as bare rooted 40-60cm whips and were protected with 1.2m tree tubes and stakes in clusters of the same species, randomly spaced. Shrubs protected with 75cm shrub guards and stakes. Random gaps were left to provide open areas in the woodland.
