Pennyhill Park was the third in the Exclusive Hotels chain we have planted for. We created two small woodlands in the hotelβs grounds with 1650 trees and shrubs, plants were a mix of native broadleaf species suitable for the conditions, along with some Scots Pine. Trees were planted with 3m spacing but avoiding rows, lines and any uniformity with small clearings or glades. There was a mix of 90 per cent tree species and 10 per cent shrub species to create a natural looking woodland with canopy of taller trees and shrub understory. This took a day and a half with the help of hotel staff and clients, mainly working 3 hour shifts, and corporate volunteers from Total Active Hub.
Trees were planted as bare rooted 40-60cm whips and were protected with 1.2m tree tubes and stakes in clusters of the same species, randomly spaced. Shrubs protected with 75cm shrub guards and stakes. Random gaps were left to provide open areas in the woodland.
